1 2 3 4

Olive has a bench she stands at that plays various jazzy tunes. Its the ultimate baby entertainer. I saw her bouncing a couple of days ago, and I just wasn't sure. Was she dancing? Then yesterday Carina saw her bobbing her head. I asked Greg about it. He said yep he'd seen her bob and bend too.
She spent all of this morning on the floor holding Greg's cellphone, waiting for his alarm to go off yet again, it plays 'alouette', and off her little body would go, up and down, up and down, big one-tooth grin.
This has got me thinking about innate development. Surely Olive has seen me dance, she mimicking us right? I think yes, but also in the moments where she dances, there is no mummy-grooving in sight. I am usually turned around washing dishes. It just started out of nowhere, music to her ears. She feels it. Dancing is native to our souls.
Before you have kids you think, well kids learn from what they see, (or you don't think about kids at all, in reality); parents teach them how to sit, and then crawl and then stand, till they walk. But any parent will tell you despite all of their efforts to hold a wee one up and march them across the living room floor, legs pulled awkwardly up and in, or back, or spread, you just can't teach a kid to walk. They will one day, when you have your back turned, get up, stand briefly, thinking very hard, and then bam bam bam walk right on over to you. That's kids, they learn what they want, when they want it.

Olive wants to dance.
